Bog Savvy4Less: Design Your Labor Day Furniture Savings

One of the best times of year to buy furniture from a Chain Furniture store is Labor Day.

  • and even Macy's and JCPenney.....

Check the website, sale inserts from the newspaper and if you are in the market... Sign up for their email lists (you can always unsubscribe when you are not in the market for furniture). These three combined can result in getting unadvertised specials, coupons, discounts and sometimes VIP shopping times. VIP shopping times are great to catch clearance items before they disappear. Not all retailers let you stack discounts (use more than one discount method). But some do... it's worth asking the rules.

Later blogs will talk about the different places to buy furniture and what you are getting for your money..

But, if you already know that you are in the market for furniture and have picked it out from one of these retailers... consider buying now. Discounts are usually higher on 3 day weekends when the retailers think that you have more time to shop and make major purchasing decisions. Labor Day sales usually start NOW and run through the end of Labor Day!

I do get additional trade discounts at most major retailers. Many designers are signed up for industry/trade accounts... So, you can usually layer discounts: sales, clearance and designer discounts.

Keep that in mind for your purchases... projects.

DESIGN SIDE NOTE: One of the most common mistakes that homeowners make when buying furniture is that the scale of the furniture is off. You get it home and it is either too large or too small for your space. It is very difficult to judge scale when you are in a showroom unless you are Very good with scale and are Extremely spacial.

It is well worth your money to have a designer create a space/floor plan, grand plan or at least consult with you before you make a major furniture purchase. Furniture- whether custom, semi-custom or just special order... is not returnable. I have had hundreds of clients over the years that have wasted money because they have ended up with pieces that just didn't fit properly and made the space feel uncomfortable...

There is value in hiring a designer to help you.
