Blog Design: Walls by Design

What makes your mind settle and lets you feel calm in your space?

Again, it depends on your personality and the stimulus... or lack of stimulus that calms the mind.

In general, most people need a place for their eye to rest. We call it a negative space and it applies to art, design and most things visually stimulating. When you go into any room, you should be able to have your eye move around the entire space without having your eye rest on any one place. This is the easiest way to create a calm space.

We have addressed this with balancing the room with texture and materials. Now let's talk walls and clutter.

Too much clutter overwhelms the mind. You need blank spaces to let your mind process... It is not necessary to fill every wall... sometimes the plan is to plan nothing at all. Leave spaces between pictures.

You can always break the rules if you are skilled at doing so and make it work. But, if you are a beginner or working on this skill... If your goal is to have peace, calm and serenity in the room, follow the rule and leave empty spaces.

Which Picture makes you feel more settled?  One belongs to me......
